When a car reaches the cult status and popularity of Prius, it is only natural that people would want to start making additions and tinker. 2010 In-car entertainment installation It is possible to add an integrated In-Car Entertainment and NAV system to an Advanced spec 2010 Prius. Solar PHEV Some people have put solar panels on the roof of their Prius. These are supposed to help charge the onboard high voltage battery. I am dubious about its' effectiveness. See for yourself. Click on the picture. Here's a news report on Youtube about a solar PHEV Prius. This mod seems much nicer though and could work well, but it's very expensive.
Reverse Camera Andries from Gauteng installed this reverse camera. Interestingly the "backup camera" as it is also called is an option overseas, but has never been made available here. The camera mounts just above the number plate and the image is displayed on the Multi-Function screen. Very cool!
Satellite Radio (US ONLY)
XM Radio is a satellite radio service operating in the USA. The system is offered by Coastaletech, but sadly does not work in South Africa. We are not within the satellites' footprint. What makes this system cool is that the interface to the tuner, is via the existing MFD. You get channels very similar to DMX on DStv except its' in your car!
EV Switch Just when you're getting jealous the thinking the yanks have all the cool stuff, here is something they don't have. The USA version of Prius does not have an EV switch! Installation of an EV switch is therefore a very popular hack in the USA. Toyota simply removed the switch from the USA model. The cars' computer still supports the function.
MAC Mini Some people install MAC Mini computers into their Prius. The computer uses the MFD screen.
